The hunt for the best summer skincare essentials has become top priority, since government bodies decided to lift mask mandates across the world. Say bye bye to maskne and hello to extra protection because summer means endless brunches, outdoor wedding events and a regular dose of sun, sand and lots of sweat!
Come what may, looking your best self is something we don’t recommend compromising on. So we, at Brown Girl Magazine, decided to ask popular South Asian beauty influencers on what is their go-to summer product — one that leaves their skin feeling healthy and make-up looking flawless.

My favourite summer product has to be my Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer. It makes my make-up last all day even if I am out and about in 100 degrees weather. It almost works like glue for my make-up. All the products that I layer up on just stick on top of it and don’t move. It consists of blue agave extract which visibly hydrates and helps smooth out the skin’s texture.
A few other amazing ingredients to look out for in this primer are Aloe Water and Hyaluronic Acid, both of which help keep my skin hydrated during summer season.

This is definitely a biased opinion, but my favourite beauty product this summer has to be Live Tinted’s newest baby — Hueguard! It is a sunscreen with SPF 30, and there are tonnes of reasons why it’s my summer holy grail this year. Hueguard is both a primer and moisturiser and you know how much I love multifunctional beauty products. It is also a mineral sunscreen, which means it physically blocks out harmful rays in the sun without using chemicals. On top of all that, Hueguard is also reef-safe, fragrance-free, cruelty-free, vegan, and comes in a 100% PCR tube. But my favourite reason, hands down, has to be that Hueguard is brown girl friendly. It doesn’t leave behind a white cast, so it is not going to give your skin that ashy look. I am super proud of this product and use it everyday.

My holy grail summer products are definitely the Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen and Glowscreen. Sunscreen is a must for me, especially in summer, because I am melanated and need to protect my skin! Over the years, I’ve seen the damage sun has done to my skin as I continue to combat hyperpigmentation and dark spots. So protecting my skin first is very important before layering on any other product. Both sunscreens don’t leave a white cast on my dark skin which is why I love Supergoop so much.

My go-to product this summer has definitely been the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray. Ever since I’ve gotten my hands on it, I don’t go a single day without it. After you give your face an even spray, let it sit for a couple of seconds and then gently go over your make-up with a sponge. Your makeup will not budge all day even if you’re wearing a mask! No more make-up fading, melting, sliding, or settling into fine lines. It’s worth the money! Gurnaz approved.

Summer is all about subtle make-up, created through products that are long-lasting and multifunctional. I love Hawke’s Bay Gel Liner by Samreen’s Vanity to create a soft smokey eye to bring attention to the eyes and I use the same liner to fill my brows. It stays on all day! It’s my go-to product.

My favourite summer product right now is the Milani Baked Blush in Rose D’ Oro. Brown skin looks beautiful in peachy tone blushes and it’s usually something we stay away from in fall and colder winter months. Summer is the best time to add peachy tones into your make-up routine and this drugstore buy is a steal!
A good skincare routine is all about finding the right product for your skin. The search becomes harder during warmer months because we not only need products that keep our skin hydrated and do not leave a white cast, but also those that stay intact. Hope this lowdown from the best of the best helps you get ahead of the crowd and create an immaculate base for you to shine brighter than the sun, this summer. Thank them later!
