by Jill Patel

My life consists of me trying new things whenever I get the chance. Whether it be trying new foods (which is a bit tough when you’re a vegetarian) or going to new places and meeting new people. While there may be many new adventures I seek for myself, I can always rely on writing to be my constant and to be the one thing I never stop doing.

I wish to travel and explore the world throughout my life and my love for writing is the one thing I know will remain the same through it all. Throughout my adventures that I hope will one day be a reality, writing will be my tool to communicate all that I have learned and my tool to free my mind and say how I feel. Still being in high school, I’m not able to get up and go when I feel like. Until I graduate, I remain in New Jersey with my blog. Brown Girl Magazine allows me to enhance my writing and grow an even greater love for it.

Aside from writing, I like to surround myself with anything happy and positive. I also adore coffee, reading, Mexican food, anything DIY, the Avengers, the Mets and of course my paint and paintbrushes. Music is an essential part of my life and even though I cannot sing, I never miss the chance to “sing” along with any song. Being a concert enthusiast and loving so many different artists and bands, it is safe to say that I waste 80% of my money on concert tickets.

When it comes to my fashion sense, it’ll most likely be extreme amounts of color and very strange patterns mixed with some random jewelry (the beads and feather in my unruly hair don’t help) or I can be seen wearing all black, head to toe.

I’m so glad that I have this opportunity to be part of the staff for Brown Girl Magazine. This has evidently helped me to become a better writer and has certainly made me more passionate for what I do. Not only that but I also got to meet some incredible people! It may be the fact that I’m a Virgo that I get so excited about new opportunities and new people, but whatever the reason may be, I’m so excited to join this team and continue to write and meet other people who love to do exactly what I love doing!

Jill Patel is a high school student living in New Jersey. Besides writing, she has a love for art, coffee (caffeine in general) and exploring new places, whether they be in NJ or in a completely different country. When she is not wandering in search of coffee or new places to visit, Jill is either binge watching TV shows or updating her blog. She hopes that through Brown Girl Magazine, she will be able to reach out and connect with South Asian women from around the world. You can also follow her via Twitter and  Instagram.
