Choosing a career path when you already have children can be challenging because you have to take time constraints and motherly obligations into account. Attending a university campus on a regular basis might not be a feasible or desirable option for many mothers, which is why online programs are usually ideal for moms. The medical field as a whole is also a good option for ambitious mothers because it provides the promise of a stable salary, low unemployment rate, and a care-oriented work environment. There are hundreds of jobs within healthcare, but you can easily narrow your choices down by considering the following list.

1. Medical Laboratory Science

Every mom knows that taking care of kids is a science in its own right. Working in a medical lab is challenging and requires careful attention to detail, but you probably already have astute observation skills and reasonable caution from your experience as a parent. If lab work seems like something you’d be interested in, be sure to compare some of the online medical lab science programs available. You can study in your spare time and quickly earn an online bachelor of science degree in medical laboratory science without ever having to attend a class in-person.

2. Nursing

Most moms choose a nursing career because it’s very similar to parenting in a way, and it also gives moms extra skills to use at home in case their little one has an accident and needs quick first aid. You can study online to become a registered nurse in just 24 months, and once you have the degree it’s only a matter of time before you land a well-paying job at a nearby hospital or clinic.

3. Paramedic

Paramedics are in high demand and it’s a job that’s a lot like nursing because you’ll be caring for patients directly. There are plenty of paramedic degree programs online and most of the work is done from home. However, you may need to attend courses in CPR and other crucial maneuvers before you are fully certified to work as a paramedic. Basic EMT training can take anywhere from six months to two years to finish, as you’ll have to complete 120-150 hours of coursework.

4. Healthcare Administrator

Moms love being in charge around the house, so why not take the same type of leadership role at work? Healthcare administration is perfect for moms who love organizing, scheduling, and problem-solving. Most of the work is clerical and social, but there are degree programs that can be completed 100% online. Although landing a job as a healthcare administrator will undoubtedly be more difficult than being hired as a nurse or paramedic, the salary is typically much higher and it is a more prestigious position.

5. Opting for a Career that Fits Your Strengths

Ultimately, your goal should be to choose a career that will have you doing something you’ll be naturally good at. The career options listed above are usually good for moms because they involve paying attention to detail and caring for others, which are two things that most moms are good at.
